Abstract:
The aim of this study is to explore and deepen in the perceptions that youth have about their favorite television serial fictional character. Adolescents are involved in an identity-formation process and, therefore, they found in television fictional characters important models of identification and comparison that place on relation with their own personal universe. In this paper results of the analysis of personal essays about the preferred television serial fictional character from a sample of 464 students of the last year of compulsory secondary education in Vizcaya are presented. Through the content analysis, the different reasons that teens give to choose their favorite character and the common elements that characterize the television reception of these young people are identified. Findings allow us to conclude that the relationship between adolescents and serialized fiction characters is complex and implies considering many aspects that need to be addressed through qualitative techniques such as the one this research presented.
