Abstract:
The article explores modern opportunities of training linguists and translators through the use of information and communication technologies. The article analyses the main pedagogical approaches in the process of training a translator, and offers specific methodological principles for teaching the translator's profession. The authors present a competency model of a linguist and translator, emphasizing therein a particular importance of the information and technological competency in the professional training of any translator. The article classifies the information and technological skills of a translator according to their functional purpose, and subdivides them into linguistic skills, communicative skills, information retrieval skills, etc. Assessment is also made of the educational possibilities of using national electronic text corpora and a training Internet Forum in teaching written translation.
