Abstract:
This study presents a classification of six novel types of digital card games which could be used for educational purposes. Specifically, these types of card-games could be used in all educational levels for various educational purposes which are also in-line with modern social and constructivist learning theories. Thus, specific types of card-games are proposed to be used for:
(a) problem solving,
(b) classification of specific entities,
(c) storytelling creation,
(d) description of essential process,
(e) debate realization,
(f) realization of laboratory activities.
The theoretical documentation, the design and the advantages of each type of the aforementioned digital card games are presented along with specific examples to clarify their design and features. In fact, the theoretical foundations of the aforementioned card games are situated in the context of modern constructivist and social views of learning at the same time taking into account essential game-design principles. The advantages of these types of games are based on the combination of playful learning to encourage learner-motivation with the activities supported by each type of games, namely: problem solving, storytelling, classification, debating, process-description,and lab activities. The proposed types of card-games could be useful for game-designers, educational technologists and teachers. Keywords:
