Abstract:
Education is one of the most important activities in human life, especially in any profession. Management education is no exception. This type of education is important because other managers primarily educate managers. In this process, the manager becomes an educator. Just as it is important in the daily activities of a manager to be mentally well and not burn out, this is even more true in the case when the manager is an educator. Passing on your knowledge and experience is not easy at all, and it is an exhausting process.
Sufficient attention is still not paid to stress and burnout in the managerial or teaching profession. It is necessary to address why active management educators, passionate about their profession, are at the edge of their physical and psychological capabilities after several active years in their profession. How to make management education a mission again and not just an ordinary profession? The answer is the well-known saying and the book's title by the renowned Czech psychologist Jaro Krivohlavy: "Burn, but don't burn out!"
The paper aims to summarise best practices for burnout prevention in general and in the managerial profession. Since it is known that there are several stages of burnout, which result in burnout in the physiological, emotional and behavioural areas, it is necessary to realize that their manifestations can exist in the form of acute and chronic. In general, it is important to focus on gaining distance, performing situational analysis, setting goals, relaxing and exercising, solving work situation, changing your attitude, striving for balance, social support, time management, dealing with obstacles and seeking professional help.
As a result, in the case of managers as educators, the key is to adapt the ABC Model of Stress Management based on teachers' experience. The model consists of: Acknowledge – the first step of this model is to acknowledge that certain things stress the manager; Behaviour modification – as part of behaviour modification, it is recommended, for example, creative problem solving, time management strategies, and cognitive restructuring (transforming a stressor into a positive or neutral meaning); Communication – in verbal communication, it is recommended to follow the principles of assertive communication (learn to say no) and non-verbal communication is essential because the manager significantly influences his colleagues' behaviour. Keywords:
