Abstract:
Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT) was established in January 2008 by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia, in line with the aspirations of the National Higher Education Strategic Plan to transform higher education in Malaysia, especially in the area of human capital development. The higher education institution (HEI) in Malaysia comprises of 20 public universities, 32 private universities and university colleges, four branch campuses of international universities, 21 polytechnics, 37 public community colleges, and 485 private colleges. This paper discusses the mission and activities of the AKEPT’s Centre for Teaching and Learning in the effort to transform teaching and learning in the HEIs with innovative, research-based knowledge and best practices. In doing so, the Centre establishes and nurtures a collaborative network for innovation among the HEIs and renowned national and international organization, institutions and agencies in order to facilitate and promote the development of insightful and innovative teaching and learning practices, leading to the discovery of new knowledge, ultimately to the transformation of the students into intellectually and morally well – equipped human capital which is the cornerstone of the national development agenda.
