Abstract:
This paper focuses on the utilization of digital technologies in the area of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Authors conducted an empirical research and present its findings aimed on revealing potential of blockchain technology within the educational sector. A few years ago, a "Blockchain" was a term mostly recognized in the frame of the financial sector, namely in the context of cryptocurrencies. However, recent trends show an expanding interest in blockchain technology, including its potential applications in diverse areas. The educational sector has rapidly digitized its processes and this transition has been accelerated by the global pandemic. Our study sought to explore if and how is perceived blockchain technology and its implementation within HEI´s . This research has been based on a critical literature review and an empirical research, facilitated by an online questionnaire. The research sample consisted of 147 respondents and for data analyses descriptive statics and content analysis was applied. The results revealed a growing awareness of blockchain technology and identify suitable aspects and areas for its implementation in the educational sector. Given its nature as a decentralized ledger, blockchain could serve as a secure and reliable platform with potential applications in educational processes at HEIs.Keywords:
