Abstract:
The article deals with the language situation in the multicultural educational space of the Republic of Ghana. The linguistic field of the modern African continent is of interest due to its exotic, heterogeneous, multicultural colour, ethnic and linguistic diversity. The linguistic situation in this territory, with more than 2,000 languages, is more stable than in Europe or America. It is education and language policy in Africa that is a complex phenomenon precisely because of the multi-ethnic and multi-linguistic situation. The choice of Ghana for this study is due to the fact that it is one of the most economically developed states in West Africa with a sufficiently developed education system, an area attractive to tourists, the culture of peoples is generally characteristic of the entire region. The authors studied the problem of bilingual education in this country for better understanding the issue and concluded that teaching indigenous language is not always supported by parents, as they do not understand the meaning of investing in this language education of a child that can be learned at home and in society. In addition, general literacy and intellectual development are measured on the basis of knowledge of the English language. The analysis of the current language situation suggests that, if the national language policy continues, Ghana will strengthen its position in both English and French by increasing the number of bilingual speakers, which will lead to the strengthening and intensification of intercultural and interregional contacts. Keywords:
