Abstract:
The article is devoted to the practical usage of innovative methods and techniques in foreign language teaching. The development of society and international relations entails innovative changes both in the content of educational materials and in the methodology of teaching foreign languages at University. This is the reason for the transition from the traditional grammar-translation method of teaching a foreign language to practice-oriented language proficiency. At present our task is to teach students by means of modern technologies to improve their knowledge of foreign languages and motivate them. Some methodologists call the XXI century “Postmethods Era”: most of the techniques in the methodology of teaching foreign languages have already been tested, but, despite the existing teaching methods, the level of formation of students' language competencies remains rather low. Not all modern methods in teaching foreign languages meet students’ needs, and it is necessary to choose the ones that make the process of teaching the language more effective, exciting and give better results. In this article, we share our experience in implementation of such innovative approaches in teaching as: the "community" method, the "silent way" method, language portfolio, case technology, "Web quest" and other modern non-traditional methods of teaching foreign languages, used to form the students’ communicative and socio-cultural competencies at non-linguistic faculties.
