Abstract:
Currently conducted research on educational leadership takes under consideration many types of leadership: classical, transactional, transformational, organic, participatory and other. An important part of the discussion is the leadership competences of the heads. The article presents the results of research related to these issues. We look at the knowledge of the heads on the types of leadership and analyse the data on the self-assessment of heads in the field of leadership competence. The school heads from the Silesia Voivodeship took part in the study. The research was carried out as part of the "School of competences" project financed from EU funds. The analyses show that most heads declare to have knowledge about the classic and instructional style of leadership. The greatest deficits in the knowledge of principals concern transformation and organic leadership. They declare to possess, to a high degree, competences related to their own development, and to a lesser extent - competences related to systemic thinking, implementation of visions and delegation of powers.
