The article deals with the issue of e-learning education in the university environment and its interconnection with the practice. The main part is the description of individual ways of e-learning education and its connection with the usual way of teaching of study groups in seminars and lectures on selected subjects. It points to the fact that this combination is capable of making significant advances in understanding issues that are mainly IT-focused, as well as the area of standards that apply in trade and logistics.

The first part of the article focuses on education in database design and data modeling at the Department of Communications, University of Žilina in Slovakia. It describes the cooperation with practice (Oracle Academy) and the education of students for the needs of practice in the 21st century. It focuses more on using the e-learning system, the testing environment as well as gaining industry-relevant skills and knowledge that enrich the student's future.

In the second part of the article, the cooperation between the university and the non-profit association GS1 Slovakia is illustrated through the e-learning services of this association. It is a combination of practice and education in conjunction with GS1 standards in logistics, automated identification and business. It is primarily about understanding GS1 standards through interactive animations, videos, and test tasks that are included in these applications. Students and teachers can browse and run their applications through a web app. Applications are implemented in a variety of language mutations as they are an area of standards that are used globally.

The aim of the paper is to point out the possibilities of e-learning within the framework of cooperation between university and practice and to specify the achieved results and benefits.
