Abstract:
In this article we discuss combining old media such as textbook, chalkboard, pencil and paper with the profound possibilities offered by the immense computerized media available to help improve students’ understanding of geometry. We list some reasons that lead us to redesigning our traditional Elementary Geometry course. With an analytic eye on the future, it seemed plausible to ameliorate the course. We demonstrate how, as part of the new Elementary Geometry course structure, an interactive online homework configuration was introduced. We also delineate how utilizing computerized media as a new tool ultimately lead to a different structure of class sessions, which in turn allowed students to experience new educative in-class activities, thereby increasing opportunities for collaborative learning, stimulating self-evaluation, and finally motivating students to improve their work. We include some samples of students work.
