Abstract:
In today’s information era, where technological proficiency plays a pivotal role in success, fostering students' digital competences [1] has become essential. Integrating digital competences into formal education is therefore reasonable and necessary [2]. This study advocates the integration of digital competences into the learning process, specifically by exploring the incorporation of simulations into traditional physics courses. Past research [3-6], indicates that simulations can support traditional laboratory practices and enrich the educational experience, contributing to a deeper comprehension of complex physics phenomena.
Our primary objective is to nurture students' digital competences, including their ability to:
(i) search and evaluate data, information, and digital content,
(ii) interact proficiently through digital technologies,
(iii) develop and integrate digital content, and
(iv) engage in effective problem-solving.
Through a comprehensive document analysis of curricula and approved study materials, we present the current use of simulations in physics classrooms across all educational levels in Slovenia. Additionally, we highlight diverse opportunities for integrating simulations into physics experiments and classes while offering practical guidelines for educators to advance digital competences. Keywords:
