Abstract:
In the modern world the ability to process various information is an integral component of the professional competence and thus a mandatory requirement of employers on the labour market. As reading is an essential part of the communicative foreign language competency, it is considered to be one of the most important aspects of foreign language teaching. It is closely connected with other language activities and mastering reading skills allows to acquire and generate skils of reception, foreign oral speech and presentation.

The article focuses on the description of the types of reading such as reading for a gist, reading for a detailed comprehension, reading for specific information, scanning and critical reading. The main methods and techniques of generating reading skills are specified and described. The article analyzes the importance of the usage of texts of different complexity in both English and Russian for deeper correlation between foreign and native languages, a better understanding of mechanisms and techniques of the text analyses on the basic level, formation of the quick switching from one language to the other and synchronization of strings of logic in both foreign and native languages.

The subject of the research is the learning challenges the students face when acquiring and developing foreign language reading skills.

The purpose of the research is working out an algorithm of minimizing such learning problems.

The methods applied are the following: the method of studying and summarizing various theoretical calculations and regulations, descriptive statistics, comparative and correlation analyses.

The authors come to the conclusion that understanding of influence of active reading on the foreign language competence raises the students' motivation in data processing and allows them to apply the gained knowledge and skills practically in studying other correlating subjects.
