The aim of the study is the development and approbation of the didactic model of the formation of future teachers’ professional competence in the use of modern teaching methods and technologies.

The research focuses on the particular structure of the didactic model, its criteria and the indicators of the competence formation. The main indicators of the competence formation studied and described in the research are: awareness of importance of application of modern methods and technologies of teaching in professional and pedagogical activity, understanding of importance of professional self-development and self-improvement, knowledge of major subjects and inter-subject areas, knowledge of modern methods and technologies of teaching, using professional skills in teaching practice, creativity in professional practice. The research work was carried out by three higher educational institutions in Russia: Stavropol State Pedagogical Institute (Stavropol), Sholom-Aleichem Priamursky State University (Birobidzhan) and Pacific National University (Khabarovsk). 208 students, taking a Bachelor of Education course, and 23 university teachers (professors, docents and senior teachers) took part in the research work. Each student was given a professional decision-forcing case. All the students prepared their lessons, taking into account the problem given in a decision-forcing case. All the lessons were observed and assessed by students themselves (self-assessment and peer -assessment tools were used) and by university teachers.

The peculiarity of the developed and studied didactic model is the implementation of polymethodic and multidisciplinary training, interdisciplinary connections with the use of active and interactive learning technologies. This allowed forming and developing the competence of using modern methods and technologies of education by future Bachelors of Education, which is confirmed by the following results: the threshold level of the competence decreased from 54.3% to 19.7%; the increased level of the competence increased from 32.2% to 45.7%; the advanced level of the competence increased from 13.5% to 34.6%. The results of the study testify to the effectiveness of the developed didactic model and the research work.
