Abstract:
Because students have different learning styles, it’s important to incorporate multiple teaching techniques into the classroom experience. One such technique is the use of screen casts to reinforce the learning objectives. Many topics in Computer Fundamentals are well suited for the use of screen casts.

This paper is a case study of Strathmore University’s undergraduate students who have just joined the University straight from high school, where many of them have not been exposed to computers and its use. The sample of the study was 100 students, (50) students in each class. Screen casts were used in teaching the experimental group, while the traditional lecture method was used with the control group. The experiment lasted for four weeks. After two weeks, a test was administrated to the experimental group to measure effectiveness. The results of the study revealed that there were significant differences in mean scores of the experimental group in the after the use of screen casts. And this was due to the method of using screen casts in teaching various topics in Computer Fundamentals. In the light of these findings, the study recommends the inclusion of screen casts in teaching students to get better outcomes in students' achievement and to shed light on techniques that emphasize organizing information for long learning (retention).
