Abstract:
Crisis managers play an important role in guiding organizations through turbulent times using a versatile set of competencies and skills. Central to their effectiveness is their ability to communicate with clarity and promptness, ensuring information reaches stakeholders swiftly. They have to be excellent in making well-informed decisions under pressure, drawing on strategic thinking to anticipate potential crises, evaluate the data and develop proactive measures. Their problem-solving skills enable them to identify the root causes of crises and implement effective solutions, while their high levels of emotional intelligence allow them to navigate through stressful situations with composure and empathy. Additionally, crisis managers need to evaluate an amount of data, such as statistics of emergency events, to determine the probability of occurrence to form their decision-making process. For this reason, subjects such as Mathematics, Probability Theory, Mathematics Seminar, Managerial Statistics or Data Analysis are introduced in the Crisis Management study program. Based on empirical data, which are mainly the results of university students studying at the faculty whichpreparing crisis managers, paper will evaluate the impact of the optional course Mathematical seminar on the successful completion of the subjects of other compulsory mathematics subjects on the university.
