Abstract:
This study provides observations from the online teaching of an operation management course during the pandemic in an engineering school. The course content and teaching approach are adapted for facilitating the flexibility of learning. The data of video lectures on Youtube and the performance of students in different team-activities and exams are analyzed. A lean approach is used for performance evaluation. For this purpose, a review on the application of lean in the education context is conducted and a conceptual framework is developed. Visual management, progress dynamics, and problem-solving are used to analyze the lesson learned and facilitate continuous improvement. As the course included synchronous and asynchronous parts, the advantages and disadvantages of each approach in the context of operation management are discussed. The developed framework based on the lean approach can provide a sustainable performance evaluation basis for instructors of operation management courses in the context of online teaching practices.
