Abstract:
Engaging students in the online classroom is essential. Keeping the energy of students and instructors at a high-level during the pandemic is vital for an effective learning experience. In this research, the strategies to teaching sustainability topics during the pandemic are discussed. Case studies play an essential role in active learning. This paper shows how designing the case studies with current topics related to pandemic could enhance students' engagement and provide effective results. The idea of developing four case studies in sustainable operation management via a hypothetical face mask manufacturer is presented. The learning objectives of the cases are focused on key concepts in sustainable production including eco-design, green supply chain, strategic sustainable planning, and green purchasing. The flexibility in developing the course content is crucial for the online lectures. The changes in designing the case studies could bring active discussion in the class. The students will share their current experiences and thoughts and this support sustainable citizenship.
