Abstract:
At today’s labour market employers often criticize a lack of practically useful skills of engineering graduates and they demand broadening and improvement of education of these skills so as students will leave university more prepared for their future job. Physical principle of basic mechanisms is one of crucial knowledge that every engineer should understand in depth when graduating in field of mechanical design. Movement and structure of every complex machine is composed of series of simple mechanism and without detailed knowledge of this problematic, mechanical engineer is not able to create safe, failure-free, inexpensive and efficient machines. This is the reason why the teaching of basic mechanisms is included in the project of innovation of practical education which is implemented into several subjects at the University of West Bohemia (UWB) at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FME) in the Department of Machine Design (DMD). Under this project 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software has been implemented into the teaching of the mechanics of basic mechanisms. With these software students are taught to create, simulate and analyse movements of any basic mechanisms. Using this way of teaching students will acquire thorough knowledge of movements, joints, transmitted velocities and forces of every mechanism. With this practical knowledge of mechanics of basic mechanism it will not be complicated for students to create complex machines and they will have better position at labour market.
