Abstract:
Education is one of the essential parts to which the Fire Rescue and Service of the Czech Republic pays long-term attention. Due to the necessity to respond to development trends, the subject of ethical conduct for members of the Fire and Rescue Service of the Czech Republic is included in the internal basic professional training. As a follow-up to the initial education, periodical education is also implemented, where attention is paid to this topic both on a general level and also in the field of ethical codes. The aim of the contribution is to examine the results of internal training with a focus on ethical conduct and the code of ethics for members and employees of the Czech Republic's Fire and Rescue Service. The authors used the literature search, analysis of available information, subsequent synthesis of partial knowledge and the resulting deduction as a method of research. The authors then came to a new conclusion from the received statements. The questionnaire survey method was used as one of the field data collection techniques, during which the necessary information on ethical standards was obtained from the researched persons in writing, through the questions included in the questionnaire. The dilemma of rescue ethics can be perceived in often extreme situations, when the firefighter-rescuer has to make decisions in urgent and life-threatening conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to include the topic of ethics as one of the educational areas. Graduates can thus acquire basic value approaches through the educational process and then more easily choose the right course of action when making decisions. The study presents a real picture of the low perception of professional ethical standards. A low perception of professional ethical standards can be interpreted as a deficiency in the educational process or as a strong perception of civic ethical procedures and actions, which could be a sufficient basis and, as a result, be a value with more weight than professional ethical standards.
