Abstract:
One of the key competencies is communicative competence. According to the Framework Educational Program for Basic Education (RVP ZV), at the end of primary education, the pupils should be able to formulate their thoughts in a logical order, express themselves concisely and coherently in written and oral speech, listen to other people's speeches, respond to them appropriately, participate in discussions and defend their opinions. They should also understand different types of texts, visual materials, commonly used gestures, and other information and communication means. Pupils are also expected to be able to use these resources for quality and effective communication. They can use the acquired communication skills to create the relationships needed for full-fledged coexistence and high-quality cooperation.
According to the RVP ZV, Communicative competencies include not only interpersonal communication, reading literacy, and at the same time, the use of information and communication tools and technologies for effective communication with the outside world.
The research focuses on the possibilities of developing communicative competencies among teachers. The aim was to find out whether teachers are purposefully developing their communicative competence, how they are developing it, and whether they are using the training offered by the National Pedagogical Institute of the Czech Republic (NPI CR), an organization established by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MŠMT CR), which provides additional education of teaching staff.
Two hundred twenty-four respondents from three randomly selected regions in the Czech Republic took part in the survey. The questionnaire contained both closed and open items. Among the respondents were mainly teachers, then principals of primary schools, and teaching assistants with different lengths of experience. The results show that only 28% of the respondents purposefully and regularly develop their communicative skills, and more than half of the respondents have never participated in the training for the development of communicative competencies organized by the National Pedagogical Institute. Keywords:
