Abstract:
According to the Framework Educational Program for Basic Education (RVP ZV), communicative competence is a key competence. According to the RVP ZV, at the end of primary education, pupils should be able to formulate and express their thoughts in a logical order, express themselves concisely and coherently in written and oral speech, listen to the speeches of others, respond appropriately to them, be able to defend their opinion, participate in a discussion, argue, understand commonly used gestures and use acquired communication skills to create the relationships needed to cooperate with other people.

If pupils achieve these communicative competencies at the end of primary education, they need teachers to teach them these competencies. The goal of the research was to find out how teachers are assessed in the given areas of communication. The evaluation areas were the following: oral and written expression, active listening, assertive behavior, presentation (performance) in front of others, ability to convince others, obtaining and processing the honest opinions of other people, conflict, and constructive negotiation, working with feedback, communication with pupils with special needs and with different cultures. We conducted the research in the form of a questionnaire survey in three randomly selected regions of the Czech Republic. Two hundred twenty-four respondents, teachers, principals, and teaching assistants from primary schools with different lengths of experience and specialization participated in the research. Respondents were supposed to rate themselves according to the assessment used in the school: excellent - praiseworthy - good - sufficient - insufficient. The results show that praiseworthy evaluations most often prevail in the items. Furthermore, we found that 21% of teachers use assertive behavior techniques and 19% of teachers rate their ability to present in front of others as excellent.
