Abstract:

The paper demonstrates some trends in the design of online courses based on the technology of Small Private Online Course (SPOC) as signature pedagogy in music education. The design of this course allows offering each student an individual way of learning according to personal needs for improvement of motivation to the educational process and creative capacity. The research is based on the signature pedagogy approach. This concept was introduced by L. Shulman. Following his idea, researchers investigate methods of music teaching which reflect the professional musician’s way of thinking and ability to act with integrity for implementation into the educational process for future music teachers.

The structure of the online course was created based on the technology of SPOC (Small Private Online Course). It includes information (lectures, books, articles), interactive resources (forum, chat), collection of students` works for exchanging of ideas and collaborative work.

The result data were collected from the knowledge test and attitude survey results and were analysed by statistical methods. The data analysis demonstrated the same level in both groups on the pilot experiment. The implementation of the online course took place in Kazan Federal University. For the pre-test and post-test, the method of the essay was used. Based on the analysis of results researchers claimed the increase of creativity in students` works which proves the effectiveness of SPOC as signature pedagogy for music education.
