Abstract:
In Turkey, a nationwide admission test, Secondary School Entrance exam (SBS), is administered to 8 th grade students to determine placement into public and private high schools. The SBS exam consists in multiple-choice sections. Students are placed into these high schools according to their SBS scores. After receiving their scores, high school candidates make their high school selection process and submit it to the ministry of education. In the ministry, students are ranked according to their scores and if a student’s score is enough to be inside the previously reported high school quote, students are placed to the certain high school.
There are many potential factors that can affect the SBS score a student can get from the exam such as private tutoring, type of primary school graduated (public or private), family income, educational level of parents, gender, geographical region of the family residence.
This objective of this study is to determine the factors affecting the scores obtained from the nationwide Secondary School Entrance Exam (SBS) in Turkey. A survey study will be conducted with 8th grade students to obtain the cross-sectional data in the city of Tokat in Turkey. A Multivariate regression analyses will be used to meet the objective.
