Abstract:
The article characterizes education and educational needs of teachers and volunteers working in the educational centers of so-called “weekend schools” in the countries of Western Europe and overseas. The children (and also adults) living permanently in these countries are being educated there. They develop their communication skills in Slovak language and knowledge in the field of Slovak realities. For a large number of children, it is an opportunity to prepare for commission tests that they perform at their home schools in the Slovak republic. The article presents the research results and concrete educational activities realized by the employees of Faculty of Education at Matej Bel University. The Faculty and its Departments cooperate with related foreign institutions providing education for Slovaks abroad as well as with Office for Slovaks living abroad, Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic.
