Abstract:
A major driving force in educational reform is the introduction of information and communication technology (ICT) in the curriculum and management of schools and higher institutions of learning. Development in ICT has rapidly and continuously transformed the educational setting and has a profound impact on the teaching and learning process. Despite the increasing numbers of research that supports the application of ICT, educational leaders continue to face challenges in its successful implementation in the educational environment. This presentation will focus on the key challenges faced by educational leaders in relation to ICT specific to higher institutions of learning. The discussion is based on the following sub-topics: (a) educational leaders’ ICT skills, (b) the impact of ICT on pedagogy, (c) institutional support for ICT, and (d) an illustration of the key challenges from the authors’ personal experience.
