Abstract:
Basic Design course contains the theoretical and practical knowledge which the art students should use as fundamentals of their art and design works in the future. This course is the main course in the first year and it is covering a large time in curriculum for the Painting, Sculpture, Ceramic Art, Printing and Graphic education.
Point, line, surface, form, texture and color is the main topics and element in the Basic Design course. In this course theoretical information which describes the topic are expressed together with the samples. In addition some famous artists’ art works are shown from the past and present. With dense works and repetitions in the course develops the students capacity, knowledge and the experience. During the course basic design students bring new point of view for each topic with the genius approaches and ideas. However the students may become aware of his/her art style with experience his/her capacity and interest for the future.
Line, as a basic design element, is one of the important topics in this course. Line is a bounder for an object, limitation of a colored shape, expression of the light-dark of surfaces, calligraphy in the graphic art, etc. Therefore, during the course, the relationship between line-shape, line-texture and line-color are analyzed for each topic. In this point of view art students can find a chance for observing and analyzing the nature and environment in their daily life.
In the samples of the basic design course at Anadolu University Fine Arts Faculty three dimensional works study in line concept. Small wire-sculptures are designed by wrapping the wires in much kind of forms, objects and figures.
