Abstract:
The exponential growth of the internet and the usage of technology in our lives have totally changed the scene of education. Much attention has been paid to digital transformation in education, mainly during the pandemic period of COVID-19, calling for the need for digital skills among students and educators. The paper is an in-depth review of digital competencies at the heart of modern education, with a focus on implications for lifelong learning, distance education, and adult learning. This study aims to enhance academic achievement and empower active social engagement by conducting a systematic literature review of relevant existing literature (N = 46). The analysis is informed by a variety of theoretical models and studies that provide deep insights into how digital literacy may inform student success and societal participation. The findings indicate that it is incumbent to integrate issues of digital literacy into the curricula so that learners are better equipped with core competences to navigate and succeed in the digital age.
