Abstract:
The study is devoted to the evaluation of work environment factors and level of job satisfaction among the members of the academic staff on the example of one of the universities in the Russian Federation. In the last two decades, many studies have been carried out to analyse job-satisfaction and the ways of improving it, as well as the ways for reducing burnout and stress in the work environment. Although many employers have been attempting to create such work environment that is appropriate for stimulating and motivating their employees, the level of stress at work is noticeably increasing. The research is aimed at analysing wellbeing and job satisfaction of the academic staff in the higher education and evaluating their work engagement and burnout syndrome by conducting a sociological survey. A questionnaire consisting of 56 questions was circulated among 1620 academic staff members from different faculties of the university. The study focuses also on the impact of changes in the education system on the work conditions of the university academic staff. The research results reveal diverse variables affecting job satisfaction and increasing the burnout syndrome. In the study, the work environment factors such as anxiety and emotional disturbing, quality of leadership decisions and support, possibilities for professional development, (un)predictability, work and family conflict, rewards and incentive system for enhancing employee's performance have been considered. The research methods include quantitative and qualitative processing of data.
