THE USE OF ANIMATION IN EDUCATION AND ‘KARAGÖZ ACADEMY’ AS A SAMPLE STUDY

Abstract:
Animation is being used in many areas and still in use from the day it has started. Animation that can be applied with many techniques like traditional, stop-motion, computer has created itself an area consisting of many sectors like entertainment, promotion, advertisement, education etc. With technological developments, as a result of the structure of animation it has designed a different film language in the entertainment industry and played a very active role to visualise the abstractions, structures in the field of equations that are difficult to explain in education sector.
Karagöz Shadow Game, which takes place in Turkish Culture as a kind of theatrical show, is based on two main Turkish traditional characters named Karagöz and Hacivat. Even though its exact historical process can not be known, it is seen as an entertainment-show especially during Ramadan Periods.
In this study, as a part of virtual training programs an Animation-Book Project "Karagöz Academy" been taken. Karagoz Academy which has based on the traditional shadow play, has been designed as an education program for explaining the role of mathematics in our lives. Animation has chosen as the most suitable expression language and finalized as a project with 13 episodes.
