Abstract:
Computational thinking (CT) implementation in regular classroom activities is current research area in many countries. Some solutions exist, especially recently in Scandinavian countries. However, there is still the lack of support for educators in CT implementation in real classroom settings. Additionally, current generation of pupils need to see actions right now in order to be motivated and encouraged, as traditional teaching methods are widely critiqued and there is the need of new strategies for learning motivation. To address these problems, the method for teaching material development in order to gain particular CT skills by using hands on and prototyping with Arduino activities was proposed based on the literature review, computer science and crafts curriculum for 14-15th years old pupils. Next, the educational content was developed and clear interconnections between CT abilities and class activities were presented. The implication of this result is that it can be used for class activities planning at computer science and crafts subjects in basic school in order to develop particular CT skills.
