Abstract:
After almost 2 years since most educators were forced to adopt emergency remote teaching, educational institutions are ready to face the post pandemic challenges to teaching and learning. Some institutions are now open to fully face-to-face teaching and learning, and some are only ready to go for hybrid or hyflex teaching and learning. For most higher education providers in Malaysia, the flexibility granted by the institutions to choose the most appropriate teaching and learning approaches is seen as a way forward in higher education. Combining what is available and what can be used effectively becomes the major factor for educators to choose what is the best for the students and themselves. This paper answers the question on how best to adjust to the new teaching and learning environment post COVID-19. It is a preliminary action research that investigates a class taught by the author, who starts to employ hyflex approach to teaching and learning currently. Observations and responses in a short online survey distributed to the students become the basis for analysis and discussions for this paper. Initial findings suggest that majority of the respondents prefers to attend face-to-face sessions and use online materials for revisions.
