Abstract:
Faculty of Architecture Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava has many years of experience in researching the possibilities of distance and blended learning and cooperation in architectural and urban design studios and seminars, as well as their applications within the curricula. The research funded by EU and governmental resources confirmed that such forms of education represent the enrichment for students and professors by gaining the knowledge of new educational approaches and methods. At the same time, they are more time-consuming in the preparation of online learning materials and the application of new tools and methods. Nevertheless, the corona crisis positioned the schools in Slovakia at once into the distant forms of learning, so as their doors closed literally from one day to another. All subjects taught at the Faculty of Architecture STU, including the creative design studios, had to be transformed suddenly to online forms. The situation brought, besides the educational and professional issues, the problems of insecurity and social isolation either students as well as the teachers. The contribution deals with the approaches of online education in architectural and urban design studios, including the virtual defenses at the Faculty of Architecture Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava during the corona crisis.
