Abstract:
Campus Andaluz Virtual (CAV) is an experience framed within the project “Universidad Digital” promoted and supported by the Junta de Andalucía, which proposes a new teaching-learning model where students of all the public universities of Andalucía can take virtual subjects that are recognized as free configuration credits in the student home university. The subjects offered in CAV are completely virtual and students are provided with all the didactic materials (theory notes, activities, exercises, tutorials and exams) through the e-learning platform of the university responsible for the subject. Hence, in particular, the evaluation of these subjects must be also carried out virtually.
From the beginning of CAV, the Department of Statistics and Operations Research of the University of Jaén (UJA) has taken part in its formative offer with the subject entitled Descriptive Statistics. The authors assumed the challenge of developing a virtual course focusing on the teaching quality and on the importance of e-learning as a strategy for innovation and improvement.
From our viewpoint, some of the main aspects in the implementation of a virtual course are the evaluation criteria and tools. In the case of the subject Descriptive Statistics offered in CAV, this evaluation has to be performed using the tools provided by the e-learning platform ILIAS used at the UJA. In this paper, the evaluation tools utilized in the subject Descriptive Statistics are analyzed to identify strong and weak points, as well as possible changes and improvements to be incorporated in future. Keywords:
