Abstract:
A teaching innovation project has been implemented this academic year (2017/18), based on collaboration between two modules of the Degree in Management and Public Administration of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication of the University of Cádiz:
• The module "Public Sector Economics" (PSE) is a compulsory subject of the second semester of the first year of the Degree in Management and Public Administration.
• The module "Autonomic and Local Economic Policy" is an optional subject of the second semester of the fourth year of the Degree in Management and Public Administration.
The connection with the current reality and the environment around the students becomes especially interesting, as well as the interrelation between the two groups of the same Degree, but in different academic levels. Enriching work links for both can be established, recognizing even the importance of mentoring the fourth to first grade students. With this approach, this project is based on the fact that, in pairs, students must send a video limited to 1 minute, which will be posted on Instagram, commenting news about the Spanish Public Sector. A schedule of deliveries is established throughout the semester so that they, in pairs, should send this video about a topic seen in class, to a professor of the project, who will act as administrator and moderator of the account. This is published so that any user of this social network can comment the content of the publications.
For the evaluation of this work, these aspects have been considered: rigor of the commented news, critical analysis by the opinions of the students who make the video, the creativity and originality, and its repercussion. Each publication must have a minimum of 50 "likes". For their promotion, students can use as many hashtags as he deems appropriate, being obligatory #uca, #economy, #economyofpublicsector and #economicpolicy, all of them in Spanish. The students must be aware that the more hashtags they use, the more visible their news will be for the rest of the users; and the debate generated with each publication. Each one must have at least 5 constructive comments.
With all this, the objectives of the project are:
1. To improve the student's academic performance.
2. To encourage critical analysis by the student, about the current reality of the Spanish Public Sector in its different Administrations.
3. To improve students’ satisfaction.
4. To promote the use of ICTs for academic purposes.
Once the project has finished, it has been possible to verify how, in general, it has been highly beneficial and productive for the student, obtaining high satisfaction results for the last three objectives. However, the final grades (objective 1) have not been in line with what was expected by the students and the teaching staff. This could have been due to several reasons, such as, mostly in the matter of PSE, the high level of confidence of the student because this is a very easy module, which has made them not to follow it daily, together with absenteeism in the classroom since the exam was at the end of the calendar and, according to the students' comments, "they were already tired".Keywords:
