Abstract:
Work environment has an important part to play in productivity and work output in any form of endeavor, either professionally or studentship. Productivity is a concept that should be maximized in any work environment. However, in the pursuit of adequate work output and productivity, the workspace environment can either be in form of general use, assigned use or randomly selected use. This research seeks to study the design studio environment of architecture students in three schools of architecture in Southwest Nigeria with the view to investigate the effect of assigning workspace in design studio and how its influences the student productivity or architectural design output. This is done in comparison with the factors of time and resources inputs in the design studio work. Survey method was adopted to obtain quantitative data from students in the selected schools using questionnaires. Data were subjected to both descriptive and principal components analysis (PCA) of factor analysis using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (version 21). Results indicated that productivity in design studio is not absolutely influenced by workplace assignment but other factors which are peculiar to each studio and schools . This is responsible for work output of the students, with the factor of time and resources, which showed as important factors for consideration in design studio work output.
