THE IMPACT OF TEACHERS’ TEACHING STYLE ON THE PUPILS’ LEARNING STYLE IN MATHEMATIC IN THE PRIMARY SCHOOL IN PERAK, MALAYSIA

Abstract:
The main aim of this research was to determine the relationship between teaching style and learning style in teaching and learning Mathematic among primary school pupil through qualitative method. Subject of this research comprises of 5 Mathematic teachers ( 4 male and 1 female) and 163 pupils ( 58 male and 105 female) from the primary school. Location of research is SK. Methodist, SK Tanjong Malim and SK Aminuddin Baki (Perak); SK.Hulu Bernam and SK. Kuala Kubu Baharu (Selangor). The pupils chosen as subjects were in standard 4, 5 and 6. Reseacher used Teaching Style Questionnaire (Grasha,1996) , interview, video taping and observation to identify teacher’s teaching style. Group Embedded Figures Test (Witkin & Goodenough,1977) was used to identify pupil’s learning styles. Two types of analysis was used to interpret data that is descriptive statistics and qualitative method. Findings of this research showed that all the teachers have mixed teaching styles that is expert and personal model teaching styles. Most of the pupils were from dependent learning styles whereby they need much guidance from teachers in learning Mathematics. Teachers have to give extra exercise and guidance to their pupils to enhance their understanding in Mathematics. This research have significant implication to education administrators and teachers in implementing the Mathematic and Science Curriculum (Etems).Keywords:
