Abstract:
The field of translation and the field of translation studies are both fast-growing and developing areas. Current trends and approaches in theory and practice should also be reflected in the university training of future translators. Linguistic and (inter-)cultural competencies seem to be understood as crucial due to the nature of translation activities. Even though there are more competencies the training needs to focus on, one has become very important, especially within the last years. It is the technical competence of a translator. It means the ability to work with various technologies, especially CAT tools in this context. Post-editing skills are essential for future graduates in the job market.

The paper deals with student experience with CAT tools, their views and comments. Based on team translation assignments focused on computer-assisted translation between English and Slovak, students were asked to present their opinions in in-class discussions and participate in a short questionnaire (25 participants) to map some of the most significant advantages and disadvantages of post-editing they experienced. The issue is also viewed from the perspective of a teacher, the author, who provides additional information to the questionnaire findings based on her own observation.
