Abstract:
The 21st century requires students to have 4C (communication, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving, and creativity and innovation). The learning process is centered on the students so the students have to be active in the learning activity. The learning model has a significant role in order to achieve the learning objective. Teachers need to choose and decide the learning model that is suitable for learning material and students’ characteristics. This research aims to discover the potential of the SOTO model in improving students’ learning results and activities in school. The SOTO model is packaged by emphasizing the active involvement of students in the learning activity in order to make the learning activity becomes more fun. The word SOTO is taken from the name of the regional food as a source of enthusiasm, so that the adoption of the SOTO model is expected to foster enthusiasm, especially for learning. The SOTO model is a combination of the Group Investigation, Think Pair and Share and Snowball Throwing learning models. This research used the qualitative method and Classroom Action Research (CAR). The respondents of this research were 12 students in four grade in SDN Telaga Biru 4 Banjarmasin. The result revealed that the SOTO model can be used as a successful and fun learning strategy. It could be seen from the data of the research that the implementation of the SOTO model could make the students more active so that their learning results were improved. The result of the study is expected to be the first step toward deeper insight into the practical application of innovative learning models in the elementary school context.
