Abstract:
Digital skills are an important competency for life in the 21st century. It is for this reason that the school and education system must naturally adapt to this change, which is causing a change in the employment system, by now assuming that a technical student has at least a medium level of digital skills. For this reason, in the paper we present the primary research, which dealt with whether university students achieve a medium level of digital skills. This primary research was carried out on a sample of third-year bachelor's students studying the e-commerce and management study program at the University of Žilina (Slovakia). In the introduction, we will deal with the possibilities of developing digital skills that students have within the study program e-commerce and management. In the research, we assumed that more than 50% of students will have a medium level of digital skills. The questions focused on specific areas, which are Information and Data Literacy such as Digital Content Creation, Security and Technical Ability. We found out what shortcomings students have in individual areas. The primary research was carried out in the form of electronic inquiries. After defining the individual shortcomings, a specific measure was proposed, which needs to be implemented in subjects that are aimed at improving digital skills of students in their future engineering studies.
