Abstract:
Students’ creativity varies from one person to another, although the studio environment can contribute to the academic performance. Over the years it has been observed that the creativity of architecture students has been on a decline. This study was carried out to investigate the conditions of the architectural studio and how it affects student’s creativity resulting in the assumed declination. One hundred and eighty questionnaires were distributed and one hundred and fifty five retrieved. Architectural students in Covenant University were investigated in this study since they are the primary users’ of the studio. Data was analysed using frequency tables, percentages and ranking. The result of the analysis reveals that both internal and external area of the studio has impacts on the students’ creativity. The study discovered that daylight, ventilation, colour, indoor air quality and seat arrangements are the major contributive factors. The findings shows that students’ creativity was subjective to individuals as these physical features affected them differently. This study concludes and ascertains that for maximum creativity in Architecture design studio there should be a seamless relationship between the indoor and outdoor environment.
