Abstract:
The study tackles the issue of lesson observation as one of the ways of professional development. The current research is aimed at outlining and learning the possible factors which might become a reason for observation to become more stressful and less beneficial for teachers. It is based on survey data analysis of tutors and teachers’ attitude and opinion on their lessons observing procedure at ITMO Foreign Language Training Center. The experience of the lesson observation held on a regular basis by the Professional Development team has also been taken into consideration.

The lesson observation is considered by many teachers as being very stressful. The possible reasons for such a view have been analyzed and studied. The speaker gives much attention to how to make observation less stressful and more useful and informative for teachers and tutors. The workshop is of interest to teacher trainers, teachers, observers and administration staff who do systematic lesson observations in their educational centers or academic departments.
