Abstract:
The correct definition of the competences developed by graduates has been considered a linchpin in the process of designing new Business (Bs) degrees. In this paper we show the process followed by the Vitoria-Gasteiz School of Business when electing graduates for the Bs Degree that will be taught from 2010/11 onwards.
Additionally, once the competences of the Bs Degree have been defined, evidence relative to the degree is sought in order to adjust these competences. In this regard, the relative importance and degree of development of each of the skills defined in the profile of the bachelor’s degree have been tested. A questionnaire was designed in this connection and sent to both second and third year students (year 2008/09) of the Diploma in Business Studies, and graduates from the last six years. The results highlight the importance these individuals attach to the skills included in the new Bs Degree, which assists in the effectiveness of the procedure followed by the School’s Commission Board. These results have also emphasized the ambitious commitments we have taken on as universities in order to develop these skills adequately within certain time frames.
Finally, we present a comparison of the skills defined for the Business Administration and Management Bs Degree by our School, with those offered by other Spanish universities. In this regard, and without wishing to be exhaustive, we present the most significant similarities and differences found, as well as the perceived ease of finding these skills online, taking into consideration the degree of advertising dedicated to these skills Spanish universities.
