PEDAGOGICAL COMPETENCE OF STUDENTS - FUTURE TEACHERS OF PROFESSIONAL (VOCATIONAL) SUBJECTS TO PLAN A TEACHING UNIT

Abstract:
Teachers of vocational subjects are an essential part of vocational secondary schools. The professionalisation of the teaching profession in the Slovak Republic requires, among other things, a broad pedagogical and psychological education. Qualification prerequisites for the performance of pedagogical activity as a teacher of vocational subjects can be obtained by graduates of engineering study subjects within the framework of the Supplementary Pedagogical Studies. Former Department of Engineering Pedagogy within the Department of Social Sciences of the Institute of Languages, Social Sciences and Academic Sport provides Supplementary Pedagogical Studies for students and graduates of all faculties of the Technical University of Košice. The paper is devoted to the issue of pedagogical competence of students of external and full-time forms of the Supplementary Pedagogical Study to plan, design a teaching unit. The main method of research was content analysis. The content analysis was conducted on 70 preparations for the teaching unit of the students of the 1st year of the Complementary Pedagogical Studies. The sorting universe of the content analysis of the preparations, and thus the assessment of their quality, were the didactic categories: teaching objectives, organizational form, teaching methods, didactic means. Based on the results, we can conclude that among the greatest reserves of students can be considered the ability to decode the curriculum, to find the educational meaning of the curriculum, to formulate affective goals, to choose to a greater extent the organizational forms and teaching methods that create the space to acquire knowledge, to develop social, communicative skills of students through independent activity and cooperation of students.
