Abstract:
It is widely known from the professional educational psychological literature (Mareš 1998, Rovňanová 2015, Petlák 2020) that knowing and respecting students' learning styles in the process of teaching influences the quality of education. Insufficient attention is paid to learning styles in the undergraduate preparation of future teachers and in continuing education. The aim of the research probe was to map and compare the learning styles of students of additional pedagogical studies (future teachers of professional and general education subjects) at the Technical University of Košice and the University of Prešov. The questionnaire by McKenzie (1999) - Multiple Intelligences Survey was used to find out the learning styles according to the predominant types of intelligence. Based on the results, the author concludes that differences were found between the two groups of students. The students at TU Košice - future teachers of professional subjects were dominated by logical-mathematical learning style and the students at PU Prešov, future teachers of general education subjects were dominated by linguistic-verbal learning style. The reason for the observed differences between the two groups of students stem mainly from the nature of science, i.e. whether it is, for example, technical or social sciences, furthermore, the differences in study programmes at colleges and universities.
