Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to understand changes of future adoptive parents’ value system after a special education. Values in adoptive parenting are crucially important for adaptation of adoptive children and failure prevention. Parenting is the process that needs time and personal conditions for adequate forming. All adoptive children usually have special psychological needs and due to it adoptive parents face with specific difficulties. The study included 120 future adoptive parents (men and women), mean age is 41±7.4. All participants were evaluated with Schwartz Value Survey twice: before and after the training. The research results allow us to see changes in value system of future adoptive parents. The study allows us to make the following conclusions: the most important values that influence the future foster parents before and after their training are Kindness, Conformism and the Aim for Achievements, while Power, Hedonism and Stimulation are the least important. Moreover, the most important personal values for them before and after training were Independence, Kindness and Conformism, and the least important were Power, Hedonism and Stimulation. After completing the training, the following changes occurred in the value system of the future adoptive parents: the importance of the values of Kindness, Autonomy, Hedonism and Stimulation; and the Aim for Achievements in the list of values influencing them had increased. While in the list of personal values the importance of Kindness, Traditions, Autonomy, Stimulation and Hedonism had increased too. These changes reflect that future adoptive parents became more thoughtful and conscious after the training. We think that these changes are positive for successful future adaptation children.
