Abstract:

It is an initiative of the Local Department of Education of Manizales and the Luker Foundation in alliance with Manizales University, Caldas University, Autonomous University of Manizales, Corona Foundation and Andi (Association of National Industries of Colombia), which seeks to facilitate access to technical and technological degrees in coordination with high school, to beneficiate young people from public schools, increasing the levels of absorption for higher education.

The project calls for the universities of the city of Manizales, Colombia to work on the implementation of programs of technical and technological training with preparatory cycles and active teaching methods that are relevant to the needs of the local and national industry.

All the educational fees are free for the students and the transportation costs are very affordable for them, because the university faculty goes to the high schools in which the students are having their regular classes. The project beneficiates 830 students per year, what means approximately the 25% of the last high school grades in Manizales in public schools. This project is making a big difference in the qualification of the most needed young people of the city.
