Abstract:
Architecture is a broad discipline, architects create our built environment, from interior spaces and buildings up to the planning of changing vast areas of landscapes. The comprehensive discipline needs comprehensive interdisciplinary education, but the curricula are usually too tight to implement the desired interdisciplinarity. The offer to cover the interdisciplinarity in curricula is supported mainly by elective courses, mobilities, and requirements of practice during studies. In architectural education, it is also very common to involve students in student architectural competitions and also in participation in workshops. Workshops are usually aimed at developing skills in handling materials, for example, in the construction of small building objects, and at urban planning workshops for cooperation with municipalities and citizen participation. In this paper, we present the experience from two international and interdisciplinary workshops, which offered the potential to introduce an interdisciplinary approach to architectural education.
