Abstract:
The issue of migration is topical in Latvia and in the world and it is a distinct characteristics of the 21st century that cannot be ignored. The focus of this study is returning migrants, persons who are returning to their country of citizenship after having been international migrants (whether short-term or long-term) in another country. Seeking a sustainable approach to returning migrants to their home countries has been a key objective of the EU and individual member states for the past decade. Migration should be seen as a dynamic concept

Re-imigration process has many reasons: the search for better quality and conditions, educational reasons and the reasons of family reunion. The events related to the Brexit cased many families to return back to Latvia. Integration in the new socio-economic situation of Latvia becomes a challenge for many repatriants. Attracting and supporting returning migrants has many benefits: it improves the regional knowledge base and intercultural competence of innovative actors in an increasingly internationally networked world. The economic and political stability, securability of citizens and high level of life are among the main preconditions for the citizens to make a choice to return back to a home country.

The aim of the article is to explore teachers’ view about the process of social adaptation of children from repatriated families in their home country. The study analyzes aspects of sustainable and unsustainable adaptation of children from repatriant families.
