Abstract:
This paper aims to describe the design and implementation of a workshop on sustainable and healthy brunch in the context of the training of 350 primary and secondary school teachers, who form an online community of learning and practice.
The aim of this workshop was for the teachers to be trained on Storyline, a structured teaching methodology, to put themselves in the shoes of their students, to experience it, to design part of the topic outline and then to implement the whole design in the classroom.
The workshop was designed based on the principles of the Storyline pedagogical approach, an innovative teaching and learning methodology, by a team of six teachers trained in Storyline. More specifically, the triptych was followed: experiential experience - reflection of participants - connection with theory.
The idea around which the Storyline topic was developed is the cooperative canteen of our school, which became the title of this particular Storyline, which deals with issues of democracy, healthy nutrition, waste management, bioclimatic architecture, natural resources conservation and financial management. It aims at acquiring relevant knowledge and skills, cultivating environmentally friendly attitudes and behaviors, initially through the emotional involvement of the trainee teachers and then of their students, who will participate in this Storyline.
The online mode of training, a choice-result of the post-covid era, gave the opportunity to a large number of teachers from different parts of Greece to participate without having to move, resulting in the saving of natural resources. The low ecological footprint of the webinar is directly related to the theme of the training, which focused on sustainable brunch.
The participation of the teachers as well as their final reflections show that this particular way of developing and teaching the topic was understandable and applicable, they were interested and felt creative. It seems that the Storyline methodology is appropriate for teacher in-service training, as it can meet the needs and expectations of an audience from different disciplines, but with a common denominator of educating disparate groups of students. Keywords:
